The European Parliament's Committee on Culture has adopted an endorsement of the European Commission's proposal to extend TEMPUS III. The programme will aim to extend university reform measures in Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union and Mongolia from 2000 to 2006, and will target countries which currently have no access to programmes such as TACIS and PHARE. TEMPUS III will aim to link universities and businesses in the EU Member States with partners in the beneficiary countries, provide grants for exchanges and technical support for teaching programmes, and support skills training. The full Parliament will debate Evan's report in Strasbourg on 18 December 1998.
