MEDA encourages collaboration in European transport sector
The European Parliament has endorsed the resolution of a Commission Communication on Euro-Mediterranean partnership in the transport sector. The Communication concerns a transport action plan which, under the EC 'MEDA' programme, is designed to develop infrastructures for transport in Mediterranean countries. The programme should include a timetable of the goals to be achieved before 2010 in the area of passenger and freight transport. Nikitas Kaklamanis, the Greek Member of the European Parliament representing the Transport Committee, has expressed his concern that industry and local authorities back the plans, to ensure that new routes will meet both public and commercial needs.
