Next week in the European Parliament, Anne André-Léonard of the Foreign Affairs Committee will express support for a stronger relationship and partnership between the European Union (EU) and India. This forms part of a new generation of agreements, which seek to redefine the EU's external action by giving a clearer identity and political consistency. But, there is condemnation of the nuclear tests conducted last year by both India and Pakistan, and André-Léonard will urge India to sign and to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. She is calling on all states in the region, including China and Pakistan, to remove all nuclear threats there. She will also underline the need to improve health care in the country and the importance of reducing greenhouse-gas emissions.
