The European Commission, DG XVII, has recently published advance notice of a forthcoming invitation to tender (expected in July 1999) for a study on environmental, technical and other aspects of authorisation procedures for trans-European energy network projects. The study should identify and compare the environmental, technical and other requirements affecting applications and authorisation procedures for electricity and gas transmission and storage installations in the Member States. This work is aimed at providing the Member States, the Commission and other relevant parties with an overall view of this question in order to facilitate the creation of a more favourable context for the development of trans-European energy networks.
