Sixth periodic Report on the regions now available on-line
The European Commission has recently published on-line its sixth periodic 'Report on the social and economic situation and development of the regions of the European Union'. The report, adopted in February 1999, is the last in a series published by the Commission every three years. It aims to give an overall view of the process of cohesion in Europe, of the politics of different regions and the different challenges they face. The report can be sub-divided into four main sections: - Changes in the economic climate of different regions in Europe over the past decade; - An analysis of competitiveness in the regions and the factors supporting competitiveness; - Changes in regions which have received support under the European Structural Funds; - Developments in the Central and Eastern European countries and Cyprus.
