Advice on patent costs
The European Commission's IPR-Helpdesk has released a briefing paper providing valuable information on the cost of patents. 'Patent Costs' can be found at: URL: http://www.ipr-heldesk.org/updates Patent application costs are often a heavy burden at first, as it can be several years before an invention becomes profitable. A table detailing the average costs of domestic and foreign patent application procedures is provided, pointing out the costs for some larger countries and the different fees charged by the patent offices and patent lawyers. Regarding the European and International Patent application, only the costs of the European Patent Office and the international authorities are mentioned and not those for the national phase. The costs for the national phase depend on the number of countries involved and whether there is an examination procedure at the respective patent offices.
