A new web service for educational projects under the European Commission's Information Society (IST) programme has recently been launched. PROACTe - Promoting Awareness and Communication Technologies in Education - has been designed to give users immediate access to information about educational technologies and research across Europe. PROACTe's main aim is to encourage dialogue between projects and participants. The site contains information on projects selected under the IST programme in the educational technologies field, demonstrations, and showcases of best practice together with ideas for clustering and cooperation. There is also a weekly news service covering the most important European developments in educational technologies and research, as well as regular features including research from around the world. To support IST projects, the PROACTE team is developing a restricted access area where users can upload publications and deliverables, update information about their projects and set up private discussion forums and mailing lists. Information about the projects, resources for developing promotional activities and a database of useful contacts will be more widely available. The selected projects cover the following action lines: In 1999: - open platforms and tools for personalised learning; - the flexible university; - advanced training systems. In 2000: - the school of tomorrow; - the learning citizen; - trials and best practice addressing advanced solutions for on-the-job training in SMEs. The PROACTe website is available at: URL: http://www.proacte.com/
