A total of 1225 proposals were received in response to the October 1992 call made under BRITE/EURAM II, the specific programme of research and technological development in the field of industrial and materials technologies, 1990-1994. The proposals involved over 6,700 participants with a total requested Community funding of ECU 1,690 million. Details of the response, a breakdown of proposals by sector and programme area, plus a description of the selection process, was published in RTD-News in July 1993 (RCN No 1596). Following evaluation, 177 projects were selected to receive Community support, with a further 38 held on a reserve list for possible support depending on budgetary resources. Contracts are scheduled for signature during November 1993, with projects commencing on 1 December 1993 or 1 January 1994. In general, these results are well balanced with regard to the work programme, in line with the first call, with an average success ratio of about 15%. Approximately 1 in 3 of the projects are suitable for coordination around common objectives. The TXT (Text) field of the present News item lists in brief all the proposals accepted for Community funding, for which contract negotiations are now reaching completion. In each case the project title is given, together with the name of the primary contractor, the city, and the county code.
