International Buyers' Exhibitions (IBEX) are supported by the European Commission under the third multiannual programme for SMEs with the aim of promoting partnerships between main contractors and sub-contractors. The Commission has published a call for proposals from organisations seeking EU funding for the organisation of an IBEX in the second half of 1999 or in 2000. IBEXs may be organised within a particular technological sector, but must always follow a clearly defined series of phases in their planning and preparation. The main feature of an IBEX is the matching of large companies with clearly defined requirements with SMEs from around Europe capable of addressing these needs. In general, proposals for IBEXs must be submitted at least 12 months in advance of the proposed date, In exceptional circumstances, and where the organisers can demonstrate that the proposal fulfils the IBEX methodology, proposals may receive support when submitted between six and twelve months before the proposed date. EU funding may be granted up to a total of 25% of the total cost, subject to a maximum of ECU 100,000. The specifications and the official application form may be obtained from: European Commission DG XXIII - Enterprise policy, distributive trades, tourism and cooperatives Unit B.2 - Internationalisation of SMEs: Business networks and partnership events 200 rue de la Loi (AN-80 6/16) B-1049 Brussels Fax +32-2-2951740
