The European Commission, DG XVII, has published a call for expressions of interest in contracts relating to the supply of gamma detectors. This notice aims at enabling interested candidates to express their interest in order to be included in a list, on the basis of which specific invitations to tender will be dispatched. The tender concerns gamma detectors used to detect and measure nuclear materials (uranium, plutonium, their fission and other products). These detectors may be of several types: (a) Semi-conductors cooled by liquid nitrogen: planar- or co-axial-type germanium crystal with nitrogen reservoir adapted to the type of use of the detector; (b) Semi-conductors operating at room temperature: CdTe, CdZnTe, HgI2, GaAs crystals; (c) Detectors in point (b) cooled by means of the Peltier effect or other; (d) Inorganic NaIT1 or CsIT1 scintillators. These detectors will meet current safety standards in nuclear installations. A complete specification will be drawn up for each detector. Applications to be included on the list must be sent to: European Commission Directorate-General XVII Energy Euratom safeguards Cube Building Plateau de Kirchberg L-2920 Luxembourg Tel. +352-430133236; Fax +352-430133545
