Commission renews funding for the promotion of energy policies in Central and Eastern Europe

The European Commission has decided to continue funding for the SYNERGY project "Promotion of energy policies for transition economies of Central and Eastern Europe". The aim of the SYNERGY programme (international cooperation programme with non-member countries in the energy sector) is to provide assistance with, and cooperation in, the definition, formulation and implementation of energy policy for non-member countries in areas of mutual interest. The project in question will carry out various activities aimed at pursuing this goal in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Five actions are foreseen: - Advice to local administration and the organization of workshops, in Bulgaria, Poland and the Czech Republic, aimed at upgrading the role of local administration in energy planning; - Umbrella support action, workshops and information exchange activities in Romania (and one other country to be determined) in view of the establishment of an Energy Policy Association and continuation of support to APER in Romania; - Training courses on financing energy efficiency investments (Romania, Poland and Slovenia); - Study on the legal framework and regulations for standardization and labelling of energy performances of household appliances in Slovakia; - Advice to government and completion of a study on development of regional and local energy concepts (Slovakia).
