The European Commission, DG XII, has issued preliminary results of the call for proposals launched under the INCO-COPERNICUS specific RTD programme in the field of cooperation with third countries and international organizations. The call was published on 17 October 1995 and closed on 29 February 1996. The call for proposals related particularly to projects involving scientific and technological cooperation with the Central and Eastern European countries (CEECs) and the New Independent States (NIS) of the former Soviet Union. A total of 1,929 project proposals were received, involving some 10,230 participants, of which 36.7% were from CEECs, and 18.7% from the NIS. The number of proposals received by sector was as follows: - Endangered ecosystems: 120; - Threats to the environment: 121; - Health: 151; - Non-nuclear energy: 175; - Advanced communications, telematics and language engineering: 121; - Information technology: 249; - Industrial and materials technology: 477; - Measurement and testing: 166; - Biotechnology: 169; - Agro-food: 112; - Economic and social science: 27; - INNOVATION Relay Centres: Promotion and dissemination of information on Community RTD activities: 41.
