The European Commission has approved funding under the Cohesion Fund for a number of environmental projects concerned with water treatment in Ireland, Greece and Portugal. The amount of funding to be given to each country is as follows: - Ireland: ECU 136.3 million; - Greece: ECU 21.1 million; - Portugal: ECU 53.5 million. The money from the Cohesion Fund amounts to some 60 to 85% of the total public expenditure on these projects. In addition to the environmental projects in Ireland, the Commission has announced that a number of Irish transport infrastructure projects in rail, road and port sectors will receive funding from the Cohesion Fund amounting to ECU 219 million.
