A Council Directive of 23 December 1991 "standardizing and rationalizing reports on the implementation of certain Directives relating to the environment" (91/692/EEC) aims to improve on a sectoral basis the provisions on the transmission of information and the publication of reports issuing from the Member States as provided for in a number of Council Directives. A list of the 30 Directives affected is annexed. The various reporting provisions set out in these Directives are replaced by a standardized text. With the exception of Directive 76/160/EEC (which stipulates a yearly report) the Member States shall send information at intervals of three years to the Commission on implementation of the given Directive, in the form of a sectoral report which shall also cover other pertinent Directives. The report shall be drawn up on the basis of a questionnaire or outline drafted by the Commission and sent to the Member States six months before the start of the period covered by the report.
