In light of the high level of interest shown in the "Technology validation and transfer" activities of the Community's specific programme for the dissemination and optimization of results of RTD activities (INNOVATION), as demonstrated by the first two calls in this area, the Commission is currently planning to launch a third call for technology validation and technology transfer projects. This third call is foreseen in the INNOVATION programme's work programme and will be the last organized in this domain under the Fourth Framework Programme. It is provisionally planned to be launched on 17 June 1997, in order to allow time for projects to be selected, complete their "Definition Phase" and start their "Implementation Phase" before the end of 1998. The budget available for this third call is significantly less than the budget of the first two calls (around ECU 20 million). As a result, the call will, this time, concentrate uniquely on projects and will not cover "accompanying measures". The main goal of this third call will, as in the two previous calls, be to improve the "Research-Innovation" interface by providing support to projects able to: - Demonstrate "good practices" in technology validation and transfer with regard to the implementation of innovations; - To respond to the needs of the market and society in general. As in the first two calls, the transfer of technology to other domains or regions and the participation of SMEs will continue to be major priorities. The two-phased approach, "Definition" and "Implementation", will also be maintained, but with the duration of the "Definition Phase" reduced to a maximum of six months.
