Geographic information within INFO2000
The European Commission, DG XIII, has made available the reports on the definition phases of ten geographic information projects conducted under the INFO2000 programme. Geographic information is one of the key fields supported by the INFO2000 programme which aims to encourage the development and use of multimedia content in Europe. Available geographic information includes both base data and application-specific or thematic data. Large collections of base data are available in digital form at national level. However, the variation in formats and in structure often limits the use which can be made of data. The Commission aims to encourage the establishment of a European policy to facilitate the comparability of data. Within INFO2000, the Commission is supporting projects and applications which will contribute to further development in the use of geographic information in Europe at local, regional (cross-border) and pan-European levels.
