Increasing awareness of the environment
The European Commission, DG XI, has published a call for proposals for general measures to educate and increase awareness of the environment. The call is published as part of the Community's Fifth Environmental Action Programme. Under the terms of this call, priority will be given to projects dealing with the following topics: - Water: Projects relating to the practical application of the Water Directives (in particular, the Drinking Water, Nitrates, and Urban Waste Water Treatment Directives) and to the relationship between water quality and agricultural production practices; - Air: In particular, projects dealing with the contribution of the transport sector to urban air quality; - Waste: Projects relating to segregated collection, hazardous waste, recycling of waste material and composting; - Jobs and environment. Applications for funding may relate to a variety of initiatives such as: conferences, seminars, occupational training courses, codes of good practice, pilot projects, audiovisual projects to produce documentaries for a European audience, etc. Account will be taken of the multiplier effect of the proposed action on a European scale, especially within the European Union. In principle, projects should involve partners from at least three Member States of the European Union.
