This programme grouped together the JRC's activities in the applied science of measurement.
To undertake research in the applied science of measurement, both nuclear and non-nuclear.
Five projects:
- Measurements of nuclear data;
- Nuclear reference materials and techniques;
- Non-nuclear reference materials and techniques;
- Scientific support for the Commission;
- Scientific support for the Secretariat of the Community Bureau of References (CBR).
The Commission, assisted by the board of governors of the Joint Research Centre (JRC), was responsible for the implementation of the programme by means of the services of the JRC.
The programme was divided into a nuclear part, with activities concentrated at the Community Bureau for Nuclear Measurements (CBNM) located at Geel, and a non-nuclear part in which the JRC establishments at Geel, Ispra, and Petten were jointly involved. The nuclear part of the programme was based on the exploitation of two major accelerators at Geel while the non-nuclear part of the programme participated in the indirect action programme of the Community Bureau of Reference on reference materials and methods.
The dissemination of the information resulting from the implementation of the non-nuclear parts of the programme was carried out in accordance with Council Regulation (EEC) No 2380/74 of 17 September 1974 (Official Journal No L 255 of 20.9.1974) which adopts provisions for the dissemination of information relating to research programmes for the European Community.
