Networked and Electronic Media initiative support office

Project description

Network audiovisual systems and home platforms

Networked and Electronic Media", an extended Networked AudioVisual Systems and Home Platforms (NAVSHP), is one of the strategic fields under the IST nnnprogramme, because of its unique value for the global competitiveness of European industry and for the development of a common market.
In this context the mechanism of a European Industry Initiative in the Networked and Electronic Media (NEM) sector merits particular attention, since it will help to mobilise the research and innovation effort and facilitate the emergence of "lead markets" in Europe. By structuring and unifying the NEM research agendas of the NEM sector stakeholders, from content providers down the whole audiovisual chain, it will provide an impulse for Europe's potential in this sector, and for the dissemination of European cultural goods
The NEMi project, structured as an SSA, aims at supporting the implementation of the NEM Initiative, disseminating its achievements, and promoting tools to facilitate the participation of a broad scope of organizations as well as helping the preparation of future actions and policies.
In particular, NEMi will assist to progress towards the definition and achievement of the objectives of a European Research Agenda in the NEM scenarios. It also includes the design of a meetings calendar, organization of required meetings and events, implementing a NEM Communication Plan and will be contributing to implement the future actions and policies proposed by the NEM members, by maintaining a global horizon towards the provision of support to the more ambitious European ICT strategy: i2010: creation of information space, innovation and inclusion.
The project will contribute to a successful definition of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) in the NEM area as well as to the future implementation of its work programme: appropriate coverage of technologies and a bigger and higher value of the overall European research in this field.
