Improvement of Methods for Producing Realtime Embedded Software

Objective

Using current approaches to developing Software Design Language (SDL)-based embedded software, we estimate that we produce 2000 fully debugged and documented lines of code per man-year. We expect that this can be substantially increased using modern tools focused on the different development phases, perhaps as far as 3000 lines per man-year.

Hence the main objectives of this project are to assess thoroughly our performance with our current toolset, to introduce a new set of modern high-productivity tools into our work flow, and to measure the effects of adopting the new tools. A subsidiary objective is to move from the use towards a commercially available one.

To focus the effort, the software for a DECT handset and base station will be produced following the full project life cycle.
