Periodic Reporting for period 2 - WISE (Wireless self-powered technology for continuous and accurate smart sensing)
Reporting period: 2021-11-01 to 2022-10-31
We have developed ONiO.zero - a small chip that solves the power bottleneck for IoT and is poised to disrupt the world of smart sensing. ONiO.zero is an ultra-low-power wireless MCU that uses energy harvesting technology. This means that ONiO.zero solely operates on energy from its surroundings (radio frequency, solar, thermoelectric, kinetic energy, etc.). No coin cell, no supercap, no lithium, no battery at all - but still a ton of power, enough to run multiple embedded sensors (e.g. temperature, pressure, humidity, light, proximity, touch, etc.). Having no battery means fewer components and a smaller design, which can easily be integrated into a wide range of solutions.
The WISE project focused on the maturation of ONiO.zero and its exploitation towards the development and testing of turnkey solutions for a number of applications on diverse IoT sectors.
The WISE project enabled ONiO’s technology platform to progress towards industrialization. We now expect to roll out self-powered smart IoT solutions across several market verticals - Agriculture, Automotive, Buildings & Homes, Consumer Electronics, Industrial IoT, Logistics, Medical & Health, Wearables & Clothing.
ONiO’s mission is rooted in getting rid of the battery hassle in IoT applications - with a dual effect: one, eliminating the problem of battery replacement and thus slashing the cost of ownership for IoT sensing systems; two, eliminating the huge environmental problems with batteries (namely the effects of extracting metals like Cobalt, Lithium, Manganese and Nickel).
