Project description
A science castle for citizens and researchers
Making science fun can help boost understanding and raise awareness about the benefits of research and innovation, particularly among young people. This is one of the aims of the European Researchers’ Night (ERN) – SCIENCE CASTLE project in Portugal. Funded under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the ERN event will take place at Castelo Da Foz (Porto) and include practical experiences, workshops, games, debates, conferences and exhibitions – all open to the public and with free admission. Visitors (grouped in one of four categories: families, schools, citizens and researchers) will start their journey in the main gate (reception area), where they will receive a conquer map that will allow them to begin their participatory journey through the science castle.
Objective
The ERN event is organised in a physical space - a castle where different areas ensure multiple discovery paths to the visitors. The visitors (grouped in one of four categories: families, schools, citizens and researchers) start their journey in the main gate (reception area) where they receive a conquer map which allows them to start their participatory journey through the science castle. From this starting point, visitors can use a map (programme) with suggested tours adjusted to their profile (category) or they can choose their own paths. The journeys (whether recommended or personalised by the visitors) are built on the castle map. Each area represents a research and innovation priority defined in Horizon Europe and has supporters and key-players of that research and innovation area.
