Project description
AI-based autism intervention platform
Children with autism do not always have access to the therapy they need to increase their opportunities later in their lives. Their is unmet demand for experts to train parents and therapist to provide this life changing therapy. The EU-funded SocialMind trains parent and therapist. They learn, in an easy way, the necessary developmental strategies. While working with their child, they film themselves on their smartphone. SocialMind generates an automated personalised video feedback through the project's AI technology. Now anyone with a smartphone can assist as a therapist.
Objective
"An intensive evidenced-based therapy in the early years of a child with autism determine the child's developmental trajectory. Children with autism don't get the therapy they need due to lack of qualified therapists and lack of training. SocialMind developed a platform that trains parents and therapists to turn every interaction into an evident-based opportunity. The company developed a protocol that is based on ESDM (Early Start Denver Model) and PRT (Pivotal Response Treatment) autism evidence-based intervention. SocialMind broke down these comprehensive interventions into a series of concrete parenting skills, that motivate the child to interact and learn throughout the day. An essential component of the solution is based on the ability of the parent to upload a video of themselves interacting with their child and get a response from our Hybrid-Response system: AI software analyzes the audio and visuals, and then a member of our community of qualified reviewers (parents that are our mega users, and students) goes over and complements the machine assessment. The company has so far helped 150 children progress.
In the uploaded video the company annotates child and parent behaviors and makes a ""basic behavior annotation"" that enables an accurate and efficient review and feedback, feedback is generated that is synchronized to the interaction, and sent back to the parent. A second machine analysis will be used on the feedback to identify errors and alert the expert level before the feedback is sent back to the parent.
Based on data collected from home interactions, the system will learn novel therapy insights from analyzing child development characteristic, parent implementation characteristics, and the best intervention skill that the parent should learn to optimize their child's development at the current stage."
