Deliverables
Desk research to identify actors and interrelationships of initiatives in existing networks supporting industrial symbiosis. The mapping includes the definition of classification criteria for INPUT (biomass, plants, technologies), PROCESSES and OUTPUT (applications, finished products, markets) of biobased products adapted to industrial sectors characterized according to the NACE classification system. The inventory is based on the systematization of data collected from various sources, such as data hubs of funded projects, studies (e.g. publications or scientific results) and existing EU platforms (e.g. H4C by ECoP).
Report on regional stakeholder ad cross-fertilization meetings (opens in new window)Regional stakeholder communities (Italy, Slovenia, Andalusia, Carinthia, Croatia, Belgium) are created to invite relevant regional stakeholders (primary producers, biomass harvesters, converters, consumer goods producers, universities, policy makers) in a 2 days to facilitate their dialogue to identify barriers and critical factors enabling industrial symbiosis, AI-based methods/tools to create business opportunities, biomass and resource selection criteria. In addition, a half-day online meeting, open to all members of the regional community, during which the Regional Data Hub and the summary map of its contents are shared and discussed.
Companies/Clusters mapping and VCG.AI enhancing (opens in new window)Intending to develop a methodology to measure the acceleration of value chains from TRL 5 to TRL 9 that can be universally used and replicated in a scalable manner, two models to describe industry players and regional clusters/enterprise networks of 12 regions pilot is created.
Regional Data-Hub inventory and data map (opens in new window)A comparative assessment of regional biomass availability, business models, technologies and knowledge enables the understanding of symbiosis industrial enablers and their prioritization. The work is based on the following activities: (i) assessment of the regional availability of bio-based raw materials, (ii) assessment of business models, (iii) data harmonization and matching, (iv) trigger dynamics for industrial symbiosis.
Support activities for empowering clusters and industrial ecosystems in circular value chains design (opens in new window)Tailored mentoring, coaching and training services to regional networks of clusters/enterprises are developed to support modeling of circular by-design value chains and strengthen support services to their members. Coaching services are provided through online channels (including specific webinars for target groups, online meetings, etc.) and workshops (online/onsite/hybrid).
Policy overview and recommendations – Preliminary version (opens in new window)Our analysis at the EU level will focus on identifying the primary impediments and facilitators that arise from current and forthcoming regulations. Specifically, we will examine relevant European Green Deal strategies, including their action plans, directives and regulations that will be amended or developed as part of this initiative. We will also assess the bioeconomy strategy and associated regulatory actions. In addition, we will investigate the connections between these initiatives and other EU policy proposals, measures, and macro-regional-level fragmentation of responsibilities that affect resource transfer and end-of-waste criteria.
Continuously updated Dissemination and communication plan (CDP) and first draft of the Exploitation Strateegy Plan (ESP) (opens in new window)A coherent and well-targeted Communication and Dissemination Plan (CDP) will be developed during the first months and regularly updated. It will provide communication and dissemination strategies and guidelines for best practices to be performed during the project's life and actions that will continue to promote the project results after the end of the project. Furthermore, the CDP will define the objectives, the target audience and users, the tools and channels, and the metrics to measure the impact. It will provide a recognisable identity for the project. The plan also describes the internal communication procedures guided by LGCA
Inventory and characterization of 50 BioLinks (opens in new window)VCG.AI is used to model Circular Value Chain (BioLink) solutions, matching the types of farms, material and waste streams, and processing technologies available regionally for each of the 12 pilot regions.Around 50 possible circular connections between industry players in the 12 pilot regions will be defined, representing the potential to link material and waste sub-flows between companies from different sectors to build circular value chains.
Continuously updated Dissemination and communication plan (CDP) – Mid-term version (opens in new window)A medium-term update of the Communication and Dissemination Plan (CDP) illustrates the communication strategies, the guidelines developed and the communication tools implemented in the RP1. Relevant KPIs will be described to monitor the effectiveness of the communication strategy, also providing guidelines to be applied in RP2.
