Active magnetic bearings (AMBs) are considered the next revolution of electric motor technology. They solve all the limitations of standard high-speed bearing technologies. However, they are still limited to low volume applications in heavy industries since their core component -controller- is very expensive and bulky. SpinDrive is developing Magma X100, the smallest, most affordable & efficient AMB controller that solves the limitations of both standard bearings and existing AMBs, providing 1) ultra-high efficiency, 2) maintenance-free operation, 3) no risk of contamination, and 4) IoT condition monitoring & predictive maintenance. With Magma X100, we make AMBs suitable for mass market applications for the first time, enabling the energy revolution (with applications in green hydrogen compression, renewable & distributed power generation, fuel-cell EV and heat pumps, among others). The high scalability of the new product will be directly translated into our business performance: According to our projections, Magma X100 will represent 80% of our total revenue in 2029.
So far, the development work is moving according to the set plan. The major achievements can be presented in the below points:
• Magma X100 Controller 1st prototype was produced and tested in SpinDrive facility. Based on the testing results, we are iterating the 2nd prototype with improvement for further performance testing in coming November.
• Magma X100 Controller Firmware hardware abstract layer has been created and tested together with the 1st prototype. This layer successfully verified means we build up its foundation between HW and SW from upper level for algorithm integration.
• Magma X100 Controller upper SW including algorithm, processing tool, commissioning tool, customer GUI etc. have been further developed and under testing in the field based on our existing product.
• Magma X100 pilot customers MoU signed. The full AMB system of 2 pilot customers designs are on-going and to be finalized before the end of July. Then the AMB system will be fabricated for verification.
• Magma X100 Industrial Design (ID) is on-going. We have potential IDs with 3D printing sample for decision making in Autumn time.
