Objective
Bioenergy and renewable fuels are essential to achieving the EU's zero-emissions target and transitioning to a clean energy system. Bioenergy is essential for decarbonizing energy and transport sectors, especially long-haul modes like aviation, shipping, and road freight, where electrification remains challenging. The Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan identifies bioenergy and renewable fuels as indispensable technologies for meeting renewable energy and decarbonization targets.
However, achieving these outcomes requires coordinated actions among stakeholders, alignment of priorities across member states, and effective implementation of enabling policies and technologies. The updated Implementation Plan of IWG8 must address emerging priorities, such as those introduced in the Fit for 55 package, REPowerEU, REFuelEU Aviation, and FuelEU Maritime initiatives, as well as ensure alignment with the EU’s 2030 and 2050 climate goals and the recently launched Competitiveness Compass for the EU.
The SETDEPLOY project directly responds to these challenges by acting as a facilitator and enabler of the SET Plan’s objectives in renewable fuels and bioenergy. The project will strengthen stakeholder networks, foster innovation ecosystems, and ensure effective collaboration among member states, associated countries, and relevant stakeholders. By supporting the update and implementation of the SET Plan Implementation Plan, SETDEPLOY will address new policy priorities while facilitating the deployment of technologies and solutions at scale.
Through its activities, SETDEPLOY will facilitate the critical next steps for advancing deployment, monitoring progress, and fostering cross-border collaboration, ensuring the EU meets its climate, energy, and sustainability targets while securing a competitive and resilient bioenergy and renewable fuels sector.
