Objective
The Preussag Group information system being developed currently (base line project) represents for Preussag the key information system for the management of the entire Group. This information is supplied to the following departments: controlling, accounting and consolidation; investments, purchasing and sales; finance, tax and personnel departments.
The development of the Group information system for Preussag was started in june 1992 for the controlling department. The sub-project 'administration of shareholdings' was completed for the accounting department. Additional components are in preparation. The relational database management system (RDBMS) Oracle forms the data basis.
The software development process was carried out without the use of a CASE-tool.
In addition to the base line project, the company is now redeveloping one part of this base line project for comparison purposes by using an integrated CASE-tool for testing and evaluating a modern CASE-supported software engineering process. In this case we are focussing on the sub-project 'administration of shareholdings'.
Should the project prove successful, the software engineering process will be supported by CASE-based methods for future extensions of the Preussag Group information system and of other database applications.
