Objective
(1) Provide short term solutions which: enhance the security and the diversity of European agriculture; reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants; create energy from wastes; create new jobs in an under-developed region of the EU; and reduce the EU's trade deficit in animal feed; and contribute to the goals of the 1997 Renewables- White Paper, the 2000 Green Paper for energy supply security, and the EC action plan of November 2001 to foster the alternative uses of transport.
(2) Contribute to reduce the costs associated with lignocellulosic bioethanol technology, by creating the first plant of its kind within the EU.
(3) Demonstrate the integration of existing technology and practices with quickly delivered research and new technological developments, throughout the entire product chain from feedstock production to final use. Deliver results that can be exploited commercially within 4 years. Diffuse results locally and internationally.
