From Hungarian ethnography to European ethnology and social and cultural anthropology

Objective

This project seeks to tap European expertise in the fields of social and cultural anthropology in order to enhance and develop the research potential of the Department of Ethnography and Cultural Anthropology of the University of Pecs, Hungary. Whereas ethnography is an old and well-established discipline in Hungary, cultural anthropology is a relative newcomer, arriving after the collapse of the communist regime in 1989. We recognise the diversity and strength of European cultural and social anthropology. Accordingly we intend to cast our net widely and to invoke partnerships with French, British, Scandinavian and German scholars in order to strengthen and re-invigorate both the ethnographic and anthropological wings of our department.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)
