Objective

This requires the creation o f a joint functioning innovation system that collaborates with European partners. By sharing experience the planned RIS strategy will develop a more sophisticated and applied production and regional economic development. Competitiveness of companies larg ely consists in their ability to be innovative, learn to make use of new opportunities, and building up local industry, which is able to make a breakthrough in export markets. Therefore favouring of innovation constitutes the backbone of this strategy. At the same time a better linkage of SMEs and research is necessary. GAL-EDGE will develop a package of incentives encouraging significant business investment in the region to help diversify the economy and stimulate new private sector job creation. The goal s of this partnership are to stimulate the transformation of knowledge created by the regional and EU research and enterprises into innovations that build strong local and regional economies, with trans-regional partnerships. Actions planned to develop th is RIS are: consensus building, assessing the regions assets underpinning innovation, deciding strategic priorities and eventually influencing funding priorities. Pilot projects are to be defined, catalyse changes enabling infrastructure to sustain innovat ion in the long-term (with proposed governmental 350 M Euro for infrastructure). According to already existing data, pilot projects are going to be set up regarding Interdisciplinary Clusters in Life-Sciences and Tourism, to speed the movement of ideas, an d to foster dynamics of creating the learning regional and innovative clusters. The project includes monitoring of progress to enable the region to react to changes and intensify the learning process.
