Objective
There are three major objectives of this proposal. The first objective is to increase the level of collaboration of METU with institutions in Europe through networking for facility development, technology transfer, bilateral study visits and joint studie s, for a better participation in EC FP. The second objective is to increase the technical capabilities of the centre. Although METU owns modest experimental and computational facilities, a pseudo-dynamic testing facility (PsD) and a GIS facility are not currently present. PsD is essential for realistic earthquake simulations whereas GIS is essential for conducting seismic hazard, vulnerability, loss estimation and microzonation studies. The third objective is enhancing human resources by training young researchers in collaboration with European research organizations, and through hiring expert research staff.
