Objective
The region of Lodz is among the biggest agglomerations in Poland with the population of approximately 1 million inhabitants. The project (duration: 5 months) will consist of 3 stages: promotion actions, an International Science Week and Festival "Science is Fun '2005" (5 days) as well as promotion and dissemination actions which will be held in Lodz. Organization of these events has three major objectives: to promote science and scientific career among students and young people, to improve the understa nding of the contribution that science makes to the society, to promote the European Union as an ideal place for scientific careers. Science Week and Festival will include different actions engaging students, inhabitants and public authorities of Lodz, y oung people with their parents and entrepreneurs. There will be numerous forums debates devoted to the opportunities to pursuit scientific career in Europe, the impact of science on daily life of citizens, job creation and region development with a view to integrate scientists and business people. The festival events will include theatre and music performances, exhibitions and excursions. Promotion and dissemination actions will include presentations for young people in schools and for students in unive rsities, TV documentaries and radio broadcasts in media, advertisement of science and R&D sector in newspapers, creation of the website for the Project as well as printing materials. There will also be anecdotes on science, short biographies of worl d-famous scientists and short presentations on the contribution of science to daily life of citizens of Europe to attract attention. The activities of Project will be monitored using questionnaires. The Lodz Region is lregion faced to economic difficulti es with a numerous population, a high concentration of students and a high level of unemployment. A great potential impact of Project on all addressees is expected.
