Objective
In the project the partners will concentrate on development, certification, production and distribution of products suitable for handicapped and non-handicapped persons. In "creativity workshops" innovative play products and objects are developed. With this project the method developed in Germany will be adapted, tested and extended on an international level. By coming to terms with the challenges of disability (loss or restricted use of senses), designers and special-needs teachers develop innovative design solutions. For participating designers, the experience of the creativity workshops has lasting effects on their understanding of the work and how to find solutions in future design tasks. The integration of those with special needs becomes self-evident.The project will include:- Product testing : the new innovative playthings are systematically tested. This allows checks to be made on the play-value of the toy, the demands it makes on the user, therapeutic effect, and the suitability of the design.- Production : design innovations are introduced into production in SMEs in particular in sheltered workshops. Based on the experience gathered internationally, methods are established for production and organisational structures.- Sheltered workshops : these workshops have to solve a contradiction. People with handicaps have to be employed according to welfare law but many European workshops are forced to work in line with economic criteria and to finance their own revenue. To solve these problems workshops need innovative approaches.- Distribution : to promote these innovative products means that sheltered workshops have to meet new challenges, to integrate people with special needs into society, strengthen motivation in both handicapped and non-handicapped workers by giving them more challenging tasks and by helping them identify with the new or improved products. The development and availability of new, suitable playthings aims at creating conditions for handicapped people that really meet their needs and is a prerequisite for successful integration and participation leading to a better quality of life.
