Objective
ASPASIA proposal has an outstanding and well-defined objective in the framework of innovative surveillance and tactical applications, the combination of new advanced SatCom technology as complementary ADS-Broadcast data link in the provision of Airborne Separation Assistance Systems (ASAS) and Approach Management systems (AMAN). It is structured in 2 main layers with an upper layer of operational applications supported by an underlying layer based on SatCom technology.
The objective at aeronautical level consists of the exploration and further development of applications in the specific environment of satellite communications. Eurocontrol's Package I provided a first description of an operational set of Airborne Surveillance (AS) and Ground Surveillance (GS) applications suitable for next years, and we have selected three ASAS applications (ASPA-S&M, ASPA-ITP and ADS-B-ADD) for ASPASIA project to be implemented as testbeds.
