2007 Researchers' Night: The Greek Events

Objective

The main objective of ReN2007 project is to promote public recognition of researchers and their profession and bring them closer to the Greek society. The project also aims to stimulate young people to embark on scientific careers and to enhance the attractiveness of Europe as host territory for researchers. The target group for this activity is large public in Greece. Nevertheless, different subcategories like kids, teenagers, young people, adults, teachers, parents, “ordinary people”, researchers, entrepreneurs, politicians are to be reached as parts of the general public. To achieve the afore mentioned objectives the following activities will be carried out: 1. Three big events with a festive character will be organized at the night of 28 September 2007 in 3 Greek cities. 2. Upgrade the existing ReN2006 portal for the needs of ReN2007. 3. Evaluation of project results by collecting questionnaires before and during the ReN2007 events. 4. Dissemination of project results. 5. Drawing competition addressed to students of secondary schools. The duration of the project will be 6 months. During the first 3 months an awareness campaign will be organized. During the last 3 months the dissemination of project results, the follow up and the evaluation of the 3 events will take place. The success and attractiveness of the 3 events will be measured as well. All the 4 partners are members of ERA-MORE network, participated in 2005-2006 Researchers’ Night. The expected results are summarized as follows: • Contribution in structuring a public recognition of researchers in Greek society. Promotion of better understanding among the general public that researchers are a “normal category of population”. • Attraction of young people in professions related to new sciences and technologies. • Create synergies with other relative European initiatives, like ERA-MORE Network • Continuation of the 2005-2006 initiatives in national level and enhancement of so the far impact.
