Technology is being developed to provide end-to-end security mechanisms for commercial Internet-based transactions. Architecture models for electronic business and its supporting infrastructure have been developed, together with user security policies and reference models suitable for commercial and business use. Multicultural and multinational aspects of the models have been investigated, and there has been extensive evaluation by users. The overall E2S architecture and technology components have been validated. The architecture is focused on supporting individuals within an organisation to help them use the Internet effectively for commercial transactions. This is especially important for small and medium-sized enterprises (SME). Application gateways for intranet extensions have also been tested. These provide secure access to company information technology (IT) systems for selected customers and business partners based on trusted operating systems.
