Objective
Driven by the MATES project partners' own needs in multi-site engineering efforts, the objective of MATES is to establish a distributed work environment, which enables knowledge and development intensive projects to be performed efficiently, independently of the physical location of its participants. The purpose of such and engineering environment is to aid all persons involved in the product creation process in all their activities to specify, design, construct and maintain a product. Such a process involves multiple disciplines. Therefore it is a team or group effort. The members of a development team or group often work fairly independently even en asynchronously but need access to shared resources in a controlled way and have to communicate with colleagues on remote locations. Supporting the engineering activities in the product creation process is essential, but also the communication and data exchange with other domains such as for example marketing, manufacturing, logistics and services are important.
The results of MATES will be used to construct and interactive remote maintenance support system and a distributed engineering environment for geographically distributed locations including working from home and mobile teleworking.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
