Objectif The proposed multi-host programme constitutes a step towards structured multi-diciplinary research training in the field of Health Engineering, in particular electronic health, medical imaging, biomedical engineering, and ambient intelligence as applied to prevention, continuous monitoring and care of patients. This field is subjected to strong economic pressure to transform the operating modes of health systems, leading to a real demand. Barriers between areas tend to hinder advances in research and development. Our project aims at training researchers integrating their speciality within a wide perspective. Since a thorough knowledge of the highly multidisciplinary field of Health Engineering is not possible, researchers will focus on a main area, be actively engaged in a project within an additional area closely related to the main area, and gain enough knowledge within the entire programme field to understand its main issues. This approach entails a cross-fertilisation between the many areas involved in the field. Such profile is valuable in both industrial sector and research laboratories. In addition to multi-disciplinarity, our training programme is based on intensive exchanges and collaborations within a social-economic reality. The hosts are in close con tact with hospitals, companies and patients, which lead to continuous evolution and knowledge transfer. Each PhD student will be co-supervised and will stay at least six months in a different host. Moreover, the programme aims to develop skills in group work, communication, and working in an international context. The work is organised into projects to provide PhD's with experience in leading future projects.
