Objective
The main objective of COST 508 is to develop the scientific and technical basis of the European wood industry, especially concerning the mechanical and rheological behaviour of wood-based products ; the Action of COST 508 emphasises good co-ordination of European research through exchange of information between participants ; exchange of research workers and undergraduates ; organisation of workshops ; and achievement and updating of reports on the priority research topics in the field of wood mechanics.
Current status
Two COST PECO Projects were launched in 1993 and closed in 1995/96.
mechanosorptive creep in adult, juvenile and reaction wood. Biotechnical faculty, department of wood, science and technology. University of Ljubljana (slo).
acoustic emission and relaxation processes in the mechanics of crack propagation in wood. Department of physics, agricultural university of poznan (pl).
A study was entrusted to VTT (FIN) on mechanical properties of modified wood.
Five short term scientific missions were realised in the framework of a contract with University of Ghent (B).

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
