Digital Film Center is a EDS Media Vault compatible, IBM Digital Library compatible Oracle database.
In the music world, information on authors' rights and remuneration is established. There is no elementary intermediary for content consultation in the film / video industry. DFC creates this intermediary for copyright information, moving image browsing, copyright clearance and quality delivery transactions. DFC is a databank comprising information to production basics for DVD, CD ROM, Century retrospectives, Television Documentary and other subjects.
The Specific Objectives of the Digital Film Center Europe are to set up a dedicated and highly specialized infrastructure. Via this infrastructure the project's interaction for a Digital Film Databank will take place. This includes a complex chain of technical and administrative treatments resulting in several turn-key services. DFC NL is planning to scan at least 1,500,000 meters of film materials in the first year; this equals approximately 1000 hours of moving image to supply to the project. The materials are nitrate and acetate; wet gate and electronic noise reduction will be applied. The images will be stored in the NL based Server. At least 60% of the DFC scanned materials will be annotated, according to specifications. The development of the software for the elementary Databank (pilot) will take twelve months.
