Objective
ABC Network aims at strengthening a successful clustering process in clusters and potential clusters focusing on animal and plant biotechnologies applied to the agro-food sector, in a perspective of improving entrepreneurial innovation and competitiveness at EU level. Agro-biotech clusters differ from the classical agro-food clusters because of the importance of science, but the project is designed to benefit also to the latter. The level of clustering development varies between participant-clusters from well-established clusters to a project of cluster with in-between situations.
ABC Network will develop, with support from experts, co-operation between them through analysis of best practices and barriers to networking and to innovation (with participant-clusters surveys), benchmarking at EU and int-l level, visits (within and outside the network), developing methodology and tools for cluster management. It will facilitate and promote joint strategies (networking and promotion), projects (mentoring and equity finance networks) and tools (strategic and competitive intelligence), in particular for supporting new innovative businesses. Seminars and Workshops will address key issues for each of these activities. It will formulate policy recommendations primarily targeted at regional policy-makers, while taking into account the EU and national levels through a multi-level governance approach, with a Conference to be held 2 months before the end of the project.
Dissemination will target similar clusters and key actors in potential ones, in particular in the weakest regions, and the classical agro-food clusters. ABC Network will dedicate a part of its activities to ensuring its sustainability in the long term and enlarging to all European existing or potential agro-biotech clusters, so contributing to laying a basis for an EU innovation system in its field. It will develop synergies with other EU programmes and projects (PAXIS, Gate2Growth, Life Sciences Action Plan).
