The potential of solar heat in industrial processes

Objective

There is a large application potential for solar thermal energy at a medium temperature level (up to 250°c). The industrial heat demand in Europe in this temperature range is more than 300 TWh. Recent developments of high efficient stationary solar collectors and sun tracking parabolic-through collectors allow producing solar heat in this temperature range in southern Europe with an annual solar heat gain at energy prices from 0.025 to 0.045 EURO/kWh.

The basic objective of the present study is to contribute to a significant market introduction of solar thermal energy for industrial process heat in southern Europe countries. A potential study for Spain and Portugal, individual case studies and promotion and dissemination activities will be carried out, informing technicians and decision makers in industry and administration about the possibilities of solar process heat and to provide them with evaluation guide lines.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
