Objective
The 2008 Researchers' night in Iceland, VISINDAVAKA 2008, aims at modifying the public’s perception of scientists by gathering people together at Researchers’ Night in Iceland and giving them a chance to meet with researchers and get acquainted with their activities in an informal and lively manner. An intensive awareness campaign will precede the event, as to mobilise the largest possible audience and make aware of the Researchers 'night and its purposes the largest possible part of the population. To do so, all the communication means addressing the large public as such will be mobilised. A lot of activities will be offered during the event itself, from lectures, presentations demonstrations, hands-on experiments, etc., all organsied in an interactive way and allowing a direct contact between researchers and participants. Some purely festive activities are also planned, in order to offer the public an opportunity to meet with researchers on equal terms and share fun with them. The project will be organsied around the four following work packages: •Awareness Campaign •Activities during the Researchers’ Night •Impact Assessment •Management The impact of the event will be accurately assessed through questionnaires, interviews and enquiries towards participants and researchers themselves. Particular attention will be paid to the public perception of researchers and its possible evolution compared to previous similar events.
