Fashion to Future

Objective

The recent years and the future ones are strategic for the fashion industry that, in the EU-MED zone, currently employs more than 8 million workers and it is composed of more than 200,000 SMEs. The whole fashion supply chain (including textile/clothing, footwear, apparel, leather goods, accessories and linked areas like distribution channels, service providers, etc) is suffering from global market changing rules.

One of the opportunities to gain competitiveness is to take advantage participating in European RTD and innovation instruments to pursue excellence through research, innovation, technology transfer and collaboration with Third Countries. The project, involving 38 partners from 19 different countries, can be seen as a meta-Coordination Action that builds up on results and experience of three clustered ETI projects, FASHION NET (www.fashionnet.org) SHOES5000 and ITE.

The project main aims are:
- Increase the competitiveness of SMEs in the fashion system through simplified access to worldwide research & innovation results
- Identify, analyse and disseminate criticalities and success stories of SMEs in FP6 and their contribution in the ERA, including developing useful guidelines to improve future involvement in FP7
- Stimulate partnering schemes and transnational collaborations also with Third Countries enterprises and stakeholders
- Mentor the creation of a critical mass of new project ideas
- Enhance the readiness of SMEs to participate in future European RTD programmes (FP7)
- Facilitate the cross linkages among SMEs / SMEs groupings, ETI projects, fashion sector stakeholders to promote further exchange and networking

Among expected activities and results are 40,000 SMEs informed and stimulated towards FP7, a database of 1,500 R&D results, 68 presentation events, 60 new project proposal ideas. 3,000 people will be mobilized in the activities.
