Constraints for the realistic equation of state of dense matter from the dynamical evolution of compact star space-times

Objective

Earth-based experiments, the possible way to explore experimentally the regime of presently unknown equation of state of matter for densities higher than the nuclear saturation density, is to rely on the astrophysical observations.

We should therefore study neutron stars in order to discover the mysteries of extremely dense matter physics, and to provide information about dynamical processes taking place in the Universe. Moreover, for present day neutron stars are the most promising sources of gravitational waves - the accurate theoretical waveforms are essential for detection.

I propose to study the time evolution of neutron stars - physical processes present in binary systems at the last stage of in spiral phase, elastic properties of the crust in spinning-down pulsars, stability of non-linear modes for rapidly rotating stars, dynamical re-configuration of the star structure during phase transitions, collapse of supra-massive neutron star, as well as, in each case, direct computation of resulting gravitational wave emission.

All mentioned above physical processes hopefully observed in future by neutrino, electromagnetic and gravitational wave detectors will carry a certain imprint of underlying dense matter physics. The problems will be solved analytically and numerically by means of the state-of-the-art pseudo-spectral multi-domain scientific library LORENE, developed by Paris-Meudon world-leading team of scientists.

From a global point of view, the project agrees well with the collective multi-disciplinary effort carried out in Europe to consolidate the scientific community, and strengthen the collaboration with other international groups.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
