Application of new technologies in the field of CAD/CAM and rapid prototyping within the toys sector

Objective

This project aims to validate and disseminate the design tools developed within the Esprit Programme, such as 'Prototype 3D optical scanning systems integrated into different CIM environments' and 'CAD geometry data exchange'. The incorporation into the toys sector will be carried out with the collaboration of 11 companies who will test the results.

TOY-CIM aims to solve the existing problems in the toy industry related to the transfer of data between the different teams and systems involved in the design, development and release of a new product in a toy company by integrating 3-dimensional data collection through laser digitisation. The acquisition of emerging technologies from other sectors brings down the time span needed to develop new products, by increasing the capacity and flexibility of the design processes, which should result in major cost reductions.

The project will implement, in all of the participating companies, that together for an unique virtual enterprise where every possible process is represented, the equipment and the procedures to automate the product design stage and its connection with manufacturing, within an integrated CIM context.

Great importance will be given to the dissemination of the results to other European toy companies. This has the support of the European Federation of Toy Industries (FEJ), and will imply the creation of a technological network and an exhibition centre of the new technologies.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
