The establishment of an agricultural multimedia network

Objective

AgriMMedia is a Multimedia Support Network for the agricultural sector. It aims to increase the use, efficiency, quality and cost-effectiveness of production of multimedia applications in the agricultural sector. The network is based in three European countries: the Netherlands (Stoas, WAU), France (ACTA, Cnerta), and Sweden (SLU, LRF). It will later extend its activities to other EU/EFTA countries using existing international networks in which the partners already participate.

Multimedia production should be user and market driven. AgriMMedia will stimulate the development, use, distribution and marketing, of multimedia productions adapted to user/market requirements. It will also stimulate the development of persons working in this field of expertise, by bringing the different actors together and supporting them in their work. As a result AgriMMedia will increase the efficiency and profitability of multimedia production. AgriMMedia directs its activities to the following actors in the Agricultural knowledge and Information System (AKIS): the primary agricultural producers (entrepreneurs), the secondary industry (supply, process and support), information suppliers (research, extension, industry), administration and interest groups. For these actors multimedia will improve access to information which is user-friendly, usable, available, and cost-effective and to training which is available at the right time and place and in an appropriate form.

AgriMMedia will contribute to the improvement of the multimedia production and use by:
1. initiating/stimulating new developments directed at the producers, users, content providers and technology providers.
2. exchanging knowledge about new developments. AgriMMedia will create a (virtual) market place for expertise on the use and production of multimedia for the agricultural sector with special attention on how to:
- produce multimedia applications (usability, adaptability, technology);
- use multimedia in education, training and extension;
- use multimedia in databases;
- increase the access to agricultural knowledge information databases;
- combine expertise in the fields of production of multimedia and efficient use of information databases.
3. promoting and initiating market surveys and supporting the broader use of their outcome to stimulate SME's to use innovative multimedia developments to improve their marketing. Thus sale of new products and the approach to new markets will be improved.
4. transnational developments to stimulating co-productions, exchange of knowledge and experiences and increase of knowledge about cultural and linguistic differences hindering European productions.
5. supporting initiatives like telework and tele-education centers. Brooking for consultancy, legal advice, expertise and products, databases for images/video, agricultural multimedia networking.

In each of the three countries a multimedia demonstration and training center will be established. AgriMMedia will support 150 companies in the use of multimedia, train persons of 850 companies and 565 top-level farmers in the possibilities and use of MM, support 45 MM-producers and train 295 trainers in the three countries. Furthermore AgriMMedia will deliver 150 days transnational training and exchange of knowledge.
