The main results of MULTIFAST will be:
- technological, management, marketing support: MULTIFAST will be devoted to supporting and fostering the multimedia European industry in organising a service environment relevant to the editorial, manufacturing and commercial needs of this industry. There exists, in fact, a strong need to improve the competitiveness of European multimedia industry, enhance the technological level of the production, improve the quality of its products, promote in and outside Europe multimedia products, attract funds for the new developments, etc.
- editorial support: there is a key role that is missed in the organisation of the multimedia industry: the editorial function. This function should link the developers (often very small companies) with the distribution (big world wide organisations) and connect all the other actors/suppliers (authors, sponsors, content owners, founders, etc.). MULTIFAST principal aim is to help the establishment of this editorial function.
- promotion of 3 major products/services: MULTIFAST will act on a brokerage basis when supplies and services exist and on a consulting basis when new or better services have to be developed: technological and manufacturing services, training, access to multimedia databases, consulting activities, information desk, etc. All these functions will sink their roots inside the rich and complementary competencies and experiences owned by the proposers. The 3 major products/services are
Internet-based information service upon subscription
CD-ROM production
Tailor-made multimedia services
The results will be disseminated through public reports to be produced in paper and electronic format, a Web site and dedicated events; they will also be discussed during the foreseen workshops by a set of potential European users and market representatives
The project will be developed in collaboration with and compliment the COMPASS project. (EP 24127).
