AIT integration platform second phase

Objective

AIT-IP2 will base its activities on and use the results of ESPRIT project AIT-IP (EP 22148) to capitalise on its momentum to continue the successful work without noticeable interruption between the two projects. AIT-IP2 will allow the consortium to further expand partial prototype implementations to a larger scope and to additionally perform tests in a real industrial environment.
The main objectives of AIT-IP2 are,
- To enlarge the scope of open, interoperable integration platforms, allowing complete implementations in selected domains such as design, manufacturing, generic and management services;
- To analyse and evaluate potential solutions;
- To validate an integration platform as a pilot site in an industrial environment at a user site.

Expected benefits are,
- A significant reduction of integration costs by the introduction of a plug-and-play approach for different applications. AIT-IP2 will provide an integration platform allowing transparent product data exchanges over multiple underlying environments and supporting multiple data models.
- Shorter production cycles will be ensured by eliminating the need to transfer data between services or sites through ad hoc gateways, mail etc.
- Greater reactivity in adapting design and manufacturing operations by offering a more flexible IT environment.
- Company wide data and process sharing will be possible supporting concepts of the virtual and extended enterprise.
- Contribution to STEP and CORBA international standards
