Objective
co-NEXUS will research and enhance the understanding of electronic topography and its narrative rethorics and will adjust, amend and adapt existing software through the interaction with individual end users in a real life context.
Within the duration of the project co-NEXUS will interactively develop with low educated adults an agent like device (ALD) that responds to their educational demands.
The prototype that will be ready after fifteen months will:
- facilitate the access to educational data
- connect students after their common interests
- offer the possibility to interact within a shared multimedia environment
The R&D results of co-NEXUS will be reproducible within similar educational contexts.
Later on the agent like device and the findings of co-NEXUS will have to facilitate considerably further developments, which are:
- the construction of a more complex architecture, which will have to contain all the locally recorded data, and give a direct access to Web sites that are judged relevant for the local community.
- the implementation of its access, matching system and of a shared multimedia environment for the local community in general.
So far human knowledge, information and culture were mediated to the public through a topography that relied on a physical or naturalistic perception of the world. Education and culture were dealt with in terms of buildings and knowledge was strictly divided in disciplines after the laws of perspective.
Within this physical or perspective organisation of the intellectual domain, people often literally had to move around to collect as many viewpoints of the societal and cultural picture before they could formulate and adopt their own standpoint. Since telematics made it possible to browse through all recorded knowledge 360( around, the old perspective projection methods have become obsolete.
The old mapping of society and of the cultural and educational field made an appeal to logics that were derived from a so called objective external point of reference. Electronic mapping instead focuses more on the subjectivity of the individual and has come to favour the associative skills and digressions of narratives.
This "electronic turn" has so far not only been challenging the understanding and logics of human sensitivity and sense but also the methods in which we transmit and sustain learning processes.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
